A Roda was founded in September 1991 in Lausanne by Mr. Manuel Rodriguez Novoa with the collaboration of Mrs. Maria de la Iglesia, José Manuel Gutiérrez and Andrés Anido. At this time the association was called Agrupación Folklórica A Roda.

In its debuts, A Roda counted 12 dancers but there were no musicians, so they used a cassette player to reproduce the music. Some time afterwards, a bagpipe, and different drums incorporated the group. Later, with new dancers and young musicians, the obstinated work produced the first results.

In 1994, A Roda obtained the first price in the Galician Music and Dance Folkloric Festival in Suhr (Switzerland). At this time, the group was formed by 30 dancers and a group of music.

In 1999, following the dissolution of the Galician Center of Lausanne, a whole part of the group Os Enxebres joined the formation of A Roda and became one.
A Roda counted 75 musicians and dancers then, and was called Asociación Cultural Galega A Roda.

Nowadays, A Roda counts 4 groups of dance and a group of bagpipes (in all 65 people). Courses of dance, bagpipe and tambourines for beginners are also given.
